The water washed up onto the beach, the cosmos were out in full showing, lighting up what could have been a dark night.
I couldn’t think of a more peaceful scene.
“Wow” said Lake, stunned by the majesty of the night.
“I wish I could just lay here forever.” said Mara.
The two teenagers laid next to each other, basking in the font of energy that is young love.
“We'd die” said Lake, cracking a smile.
Mara laughed. The thing she liked the most about Lake was how she always knew how to ruin a moment.
“We would starve to death.” responded Mara, playing into the bit.
“Don't be an idiot.”
Mara rolled her head to look at Lake, who was still staring at the stars.
“You would die of dehydration before starvation.” Lake explained.
Her smile got wider.
“I can always count on you to make a sweet moment into a conversation about the logistics of starving.”
“I have been known to make every conversation I partake in more grim.” Lake turned her head to meet Mara’s gaze.
“Were you staring at me?”
“Yeah, how does that make you feel?” Mara teased.
She leaned in, and the two lovers softly kissed.
“Sorry.” Said Lake, with a chuckle
“What?” Mara laughed.
“Nothing.” Said Lake, lost in the moment.
“Okay.” chuckled Mara.
